Hello Community!

I have an N810 with Diablo. I paid for 3-yr Nav so I use my N810 in my car faithfully. I been looking around and found OpenICE formally linuxICE. Its Ubuntu based and is made for car entertainment complete with media player and Nav apps. Is it possible to get this running for the N810? I would use Canola but I keep getting a static sound when I plug it in the car AUX. So this OpenICE sounds perfect. Keep up the great work everyone!!

there is a version of navit floating around for diablo/os2008. Thats the same map system as openice makes use of.

as for the static, thats probably the same old hiss problem thats been reported for ages. Its an effect of powersaving shutting down the amp when no audio is being played.

I don't want navit, it sucks. Well at least the way it looks sucks. I plan on buying an N900 so the N810 will stay in my car all the time. And something like OpenICE or Limefree is perfect.

Why bother with openice? It uses Navit, and Carman, both of which are available on the N810 with OS2008. so the only thing you are missing is nGhost, and I would suggest that Canola is a excellent replacement.

Also, there is now a notification deamon, which displays a notification message with the artist & track whenever the track changes, which I find is great.

As TSO said the static/hissing is due to the sound system starting/shutting, and is a "feature" of the NITS. Certainly my 770, N800 and N810 all do the same.

I have minimized it by using an AUX IN feed into my head unit, and setting up a custom equaliser preset on the stereo.

As for Navit, you say "the way it looks sucks" - change it then. All the road colours, and OSD stuff can be configured in the 2 XML files, all you need is a text editor and time. Alternatively use MaemoMapper or Wayfinder.
