In a recent maemo update, my function key stopped being tap once to activate, tap twice to lock; same for the shift key.

How do I revert to the previous functionality?

As far as I know (afaik), the functionality has not changed. You might have encountered a bug.

Have you installed anything from -testing or -devel that would have compromised the keyboard?

I have installed from -devel and -testing.

ukeyboard and google-scim / pinyin

Flashing it fixed... whatever it was.
