Ed, I might have found a weird bug.
I used to get unrecoverable Network Errors when I switched wifi networks.
Now I I still get a Network Error, but it almost always goes away if I select TOR and without changes click save.
Every once in a while I do this workaround and TOR refuses to reconnect. And it doesn't fail after some time- it fails the instant I click save - it never attempts to connect.
Every single time this has happened I checked the advanced settings to find that all the settings are either garbage (big negative numbers) or completely blank. Not zeros, just a blank slate.
Even the "Use GV contacts" is unchecked.
If I reset these fields to decent values, it starts working again.
The problem I have is that those value should not have changed in the first place.
I don't have a reliable way of reproducing this.

I've heard a couple reports of this but not seen it. Please attach a log to the bug report as I previously posted:

I sure hope something is in the log. If not it would be dbus logs I'd need to see which are too chatty to record unless you can get consistent reproductions

I installed it w/o reading here first. Wouldn't connect. Checked the account, it asked for a name and password to save, put in password, saved still wouldn't connect. After further review, name field was blank, not editable.
So I un-installed, deleted ~/.theonering folder, re-installed. Still came up with same account info (no name/not editable, needed password). Hit "delete" from edit screen. Added a new account, selected Google Voice, put in name/password, created no problem. I've also gone back in and changed settings as well.
Anything I can do to help? I have Pidgin Extras 2.6.6-1nix0 and Pidgin Protocols 0.8 installed.
*Consumer*, not a developer! I apologize for any inconvenience.
