Hi All

How can I reduce the number of desktops from 4 to 3. I cannot find the settings anywhere so is it possible?

Click desktop then the cog icon, then desktop menu then manage views.

gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/views/active -t list --list-type int [1,2,3]

Interesting - does this mean you could have more than 4? I personally could do with a 5th...

I did try using the command with [1,2,3,4,5] but still only get 4

The internal limit in hildon-desktop is 4 and it probably enforces that limit if it's over 4. I think there's a modified hildon-desktop which can do lots of stuff, no idea if you can have more than 4 desktops though.

If you use Matan's modified-hildon-desktop, you can do up to 9 desktops. Works well also. Just a lot more of side swiping. =P

wonder if there is a way to switch directly to a numbered desktop ie SYMBOL+FUNC+<desktop_no>?

It is possible to configure keyboard-shortcuts package to provide this behaviour. With modified-hildon-desktop, setting gconf key /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/views/current changes the current view, so you can run the command

gconftool -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/views/current -t int 1

on pressing of ctrl+fn+q to select view number 1.
