You can back up stuff using the Backup/Restore utility to a memory card, but it won't back up your apps. Just your email, contacts, docs, bookmarks, media, and settings.

But all the names of applications you had in your device wil be saved..... so you they will show up in your application manager.... so you just need to click and install.... that doesnt take much time...

I think I did not undersstand what you are meaning by this... The 3rd paarty apps will be removed and then you have to reinstall them back, period.
