It seems this cannot be done on the N900 only, mtdblock is a missing module as it says.
If we package the old files in a program that only installs on a N900, only users who are actually entitled to use the closed source files will use them, isn't that fair? Or we will still get caught in legal issues?

Remember, this is open source linux, if the mtdblock driver isn't there, it could be. Relatively speaking, building your own kernel for the n900 is very simple.
The point is to make it easy for a non-advanced user to revert his keyboard easily and without using a pc, and only hassle with entering imei and downloading the fiasco image. I think having him to flash a new kernel on his phone defeats the purpose.

Only the person building the module needs a partial kernel build environment. So no, there's no need for anyone to reflash their kernel in this instance. But also, did you know that the kernel gets flashed OTA? There's a flasher on your device, and sometime before the next boot, a certain directory gets checked for new stuff that needs to be flashed or installed.
Are you using the physical keyboard or the virtual keyboard? Maybe make sure the virtual keyboard is turned off for this process.
Turned off virtual keyboard in Settings and I'm using the hardware keyboard. It closed down again
I also tried killing hildon-input-method but that also closed down terminal

What about sshing into it? If you're successful there, then be sure to run hildon-im-recache. Maybe then reboot.
Replaced the files, didn't use the cleanest way but, X Terminal never close down.
Recached the files and I have the empty keyboard now, somehow I think it's ukeyboard's fault
