    Hi,
i want to set up a mediaserver in my livingroom. I don't care if windows or linux, but i'd like to control the multimediafunctions through my n900. I tried VNC Viewer with Ubuntu and it didn't work properly.
Is there a possibility to view my medialibrary and navigate through it?

    greets lugges

I know you can do this through windows, but only to stream media to your n900. Best bet would be VNC into windows or ubuntu. I reckon a remote or frontend for mythbuntu or something will pop up soon, if it's not already in devel.

The easiest and crudest method would be to use a media player with a web interface.
VLC (cross-platform, linked to documentation) or Winamp (windows, linked to plugin) are just examples, I'm sure there are loads of others. I haven't played with the winamp one, because I like VLC and... windows is not exactly one of my favourite operating systems.

Please post your experiences about media center control with the n900 if you find the time, even (especially) if you don't like my suggestion.

Maybe use BlueMaemo and have your n900 emulate a bluetooth keyboard/mouse?

Another method would be a combination of UPnP media server and media renderer together with the N900 (e.g. with MediaBox) acting as a control point where you browse your stuff and play remotely on the server. However, this is still largely untested, and may or may not work for you.

I'm using a Dreambox 7025 (I would recommend a DM 8000) and control it via webremote and webcontrol in the Browser.

You only need two things for the setup:
    • A W-Lan Router (WPA2)
    • a fixed IP Adress set in your Dreambox

Thats all! Setup ready for use.

I dont think that this is working for me. I dont want to type in lines of code only to change one song.
If you have an easy to use script or frontend please let me know

    Ive discovered another option.
Since i got a ir remotecontrol that is laying around somewhere i can do the movie stuff with that because then i have to sit in front of the tv anyway. And for my music i will use mpd in combination with mmpc.

if you speek german u can also help me fix it
