we have been using sip in our office since 2005 with very little problems. You just need a good connection and a good provider.

In the beginning is like the wild west with voip providers, but there are good stable ones now.

Any direct line call i am making over skype on 3G goes great, edge not so great.
Yesterday morning I called into a conference bridge using Skype on a wifi connection and had no problems at all with DTMF.

i have been using skype and making all my calls from the device to save on long distance. Skyler offers caller ID for outgoing calls which is great. and $2.50 per month for unlimited calling in North America. you need to plug in as skype over wifi is a battery hog, calls are crystal clear though.
