My N900 works perfectly. Everything is ok compared to the various issues people having been having with the phone.
The only problem is the talk time which lasts 90 mins max on 3G.
As my phone is less than 28 days of purchase I have been advised by carphone warehouse that the battery will not be replaced and i will have to return my n900 along with the box for a completely new replacement.
But I am reluctant of getting one which may have other issues.
Can UK users please advise what I should do?
I have the latest official UK update. Will the latest global firmware
update improve the battery life?

If you're worried about sending it back, you could always just buy a replacement battery, theyre about £15 for a genuine one.
Most of the really major "problems" and "faults" with the device can largely be put down to pebkac though, chances are any replacement device cpw send you will work perfectly well.

Thb with you mate, I would keep it. If the battery time for normal usage (internet browsing, sms, music, movies) really is equally ridiculous, then by all means return it, but if it's just calls we are talking about I would hold onto it and wait for a new FW. If that doesn't help buy an extra battery and use the old one as a backup. That's what I did

Best place to buy a genuine battery in the UK?

The safest place to buy a battery and guarantee it's genuine would be nokia:

http://shop.nokia.co.uk/nokia-uk/pro...&culture=en-GB

Obviously theyre a little on the expensive side, but you know for a fact the battery's legit - Some other retailers have them for around the £15 mark, for example:

The battery's advertised as genuine, but you do run the risk that it's well-imitated knock-off.

I have the latest official UK update. Will the latest global firmware
update improve the battery life? Is there a problem with the sim card as the 3G signals just have 3 bars on average

Sorry I am not from UK, but anyway.
For me you have two possibilities:
1. Use 2G (or 2,5G) instead of 3G (if 3G is not soo important for you).
2. The replacement of your SIM card may improve the autonomy time.

OK, some additional ideas:
1. Charge only via original wall charger and avoid charge in your car.
2. Disable wi-fi and use only when it is needed - you can install a program AutoDisconnect.
3. Too much widgets on your desktops - try to minimize both widgets and desktops. Sometimes instead of widgets you can use shortcuts. Minimizing desktops also helps - I am using at this moment only two.
4. If you have program named Led pattern editor for changing led notifications - uninstall it. Because of this program i had one full day less battery - in 2,5G.
5. Put the light for desktop on 2 or 3 level ( from 5 levels).

Well this is for now.
Regards.

example of my usage today.... charged over night!! woke up 6:30, checked maemo talk.... pico drive downloaded, 4 roms downloaded.... played on picodrive and vgba on and off all day. prob about 4hours all together... couple of small phone calls. mainly from the missus moaning that a didnt take the rubbish out in the morning (maemo talks fault). got home at 4. didnt need a charge till 5.

i dont have any widgets running, didnt connect to the net in anyway apart from the quick morning session! and as u see. battery lasted when i needed it.

just buy a second battery if ur using the phone a lot. first try the tips from previous post tho. that will help it a lot mate!! by the way, im on vodafone uk!!!

only had a problem with battery life when i first got it. had widgets running, always connected to net, screen brightness up!! then i learnt the ways of the hippie n900.... save the trees man!!!

also.... never have problems with in car charger. seems to restore battery to max after about an hours charge. as long as i aint using and abusing whilst juicing him up!!!
