I'm wondering if there is somebody who can help me. I live in the Netherlands and in the Netherlands there are 3 mobile networks:
  • vodafone NL
  • NL KPN
  • T-Mobile NL
But there are a lot more providers: Ben, Telfort, Tele-2, etc.

I'm connected to Telfort. Telfort is using the network of NL KPN.
Here is a screenshot of my desktop so you can see both names on the screen:

My problem is that because of this construction my phone keeps nagging that I'm roaming. When I use Healthcheck (Thanks Noobmonkey!) I also see that my Cell Status is roaming.

Is there a way to compile or change a file so that (in my case) Telfort is treated as NOT roaming?

Just an idea for you:
In Settings menu there is a possibility to make search of the molbile provider - Automatic and Manual. Set Manual and make your choice of mobile operator.
Hope this will help.
Regards.

I've been wondering the same thing myself.

My car's integrated Bluetooth always tells me that I'm roaming no matter where I am, and it strikes me as a bit odd..

Healthcheck (thanks, Noobmonkey ) shows my Cell Status as roaming as well, even after setting my Network Selection to Manual and choosing my mobile provider as per jorjino's suggestion above, so I'm not optimistic it's going to change anything when I get in the car later today (I'll be sure to post back if it does).

I'm wondering if it might be caused by a provider sharing its network with another company.. in my case, my cell service is provided by a company called Fido, but the actual network they use is owned/operated by a company called Rogers..

When I set Network Selection to manual and picked Fido from the list, the N900 briefly displayed a message saying "Connected to Rogers", which is technically true, even though it says "Fido" on my desktop next to the Status Area. This could just be a case of the N900 not knowing what to think about such a setup..

We have in-country roaming on 3 in the UK too. 3 currently have their own 3G sites, but use Orange for fill-in 2/2.5G coverage. No price difference.

My N900 doesn't nag that I'm roaming (maybe I disabled that check). However I have disabled international data roaming on my network's "profile" page (off device) to prevent horrendous data charges compared to the civilized 5UKP/1Gb FUP I have for UK.

Hehe, that's the first time i've actually heard that bit works, never been able to test it myself (Followed by the second further down)

Interesting question, as i assume you still want other networks to show as roaming?...
So what you need to be able to do is set a group of providers to be the home network...

No idea how to do it, but will look into it

This is exactly wat my operator told me to do. Unfortunately there is no Telfort in my operator list, only NL KPN. So it keeps roaming, no matter what I do.

I really hoped someone could help me. I would even be happy if someone could help me with the source file that decides if the network is roaming or not.

Also i'm willing to pay for a good solution. So please feel free to do me a good offer
