I just saw this news article about Sygic finally being released. It looks like it currently has only maps for Europe, so nothing for me yet (US here) , but it's promising.

At 60 Euro (~$82 USD), it's pretty expensive though. I might pay for it at about ~$40 USD, although considering that OVI navigation isn't here yet, I might capitulate.

Can anybody in Europe confirm this?

that's a step in the right direction.
just hope it's not priced so high in the U.S or i'll have to wait to get the n900 on sale.
on the upside i hope this means paid apps for the n900 been fixed.

The US map of the older Sygic version it working too.

How does the registration for that work? Are the maps just drop and play in lieu of the EU maps?

Currently Sygic provides deb install only for folks who buy the EU version.

As soon as the US maps are released I'll bite, those holding on for free Nav from Nokia I think will be waiting for a long time.

Yeah, I know, which is why I'd be highly tempted to pay for this just because I've partially given up hope for Ovi at this point.
