The n900 is great. do not have it all, but no device has. So focus on what you got, and not what you dont.
This is extremely sound advice. Don't expect Meego, voice turn-by-turn navigation, new games, Qt 4.6, portrait mode, perfect exchange sync. Be aware that whatever you have now might just have to be enough. Sure, you'll probably get one or two of the most anticipated things, but you will definitely not get all...

I'm sorry guys but it needs said, a whole lot of this thread reads like blatant N900 Fanboyism. Some of you just don't want to see the phones shortcomings.

And yes I say "phone" because thats what Nokia's advertising is selling it as. If people are buying it based on the advertising that it is in fact a phone, you lot telling them here that "actually its an internet tablet, you shouldn't expect advanced phone features", its a bit late like and as a phone it doesn't stack up well against its competitors.

Its 5 months on now and Nokia hasn't done a damn thing to address the shortcomings, the seem more interested in Meego, which you lot are blindly assuming will come to the N900, based on rumours and heresay.

    Take the blinkers off guys.

I like my blinkers anyway. They make me look cool.

I have to say this thread is evenly balanced between ridiculous ranting and blatant fanboyism. Saying Nokia has done nothing in 5 months is blatantly false, the phone is far more stable then it was when released, and anyone who has ever shipped a product understands you address bugs before you add features. Nokia has been fairly aggressive at addressing bugs, and has added a few new features. Hardly nothing.

On the other hand, the shift from Maemo to Meego has raised a lot of concerns for current n900 owners, and is nearly as bad as Microsoft pointing out that NO WinMo phone that ships with any version of WinMo 6.x will EVER be upgraded to Windows Phone 7 (thus killing all sales for WinMo phones until next fall) so yeah, Point to you there. In Nokia's case the upside is that it is still an OPEN platform, and it does run Qt apps, so there is compatibility at the source level for app developers. So there is more hope that new apps will still come to the Maemo platform.

    I like my N900.
I read over exchange email. Currently N900 does not support provisioning, but this guide makes no mention of it? Another deceitful advertisement or did they truly solve provisioning issue??

It's not a full truth - today N900 supports provisioning but only from SIM card.

For me, if the N900 did proper video calling and properly integrated MMS and I had the freedom of choice to place the device in portrait mode whenever I like (my earliest windows vario did this in any part of the OS and any program) then I think I would be happy with it forever. I can't think of anything else I need from it. The Nokia PC suite could do with functioning a bit better with it, but I have it being used as a modem at the mo on my laptop and it syncs nicely with Outlook.

The OS can be slightly glitchy sometimes i.e when scrolling through home screens or photos, videos don't play perfectly every time and songs can skip sometimes as if they are LP's.

I came from being a devoted Windows Mobile user for over 7 years and I am glad that horrible part of my life is behind me. But its annoying that this super duper device still cannot do things that WM managed to do with ease for the last decade!

But all in all, it does everything I can think of that it should do.

    Except the above mentioned omissions!
