Has anyone noticed what happens when choosing to 'skip' the SIM LOCK code option on booting up your N900 ??

If entering simlock is skipped the device continues to boot and then your free to wander about the device using & seeing anything thats not sim dependant

Of course if DEVICE LOCK is set up (which doesn't have a skip option) then it's not so bad as it needs to be entered before SIM LOCK. However anyone with just sim lock activated might want to think again for obvious reasons and activate device lock too

I don't mean to come across as harsh but Is this anything new? A sizeable number / most smartphones allow access to all their non sim functions by either skipping the simcode request or booting the phone with no simcard in, a sim lock has only ever been that, it's a lock against using the sim, not the phone it's in.

Exactly, SIM lock has only ever been to inhibit calling etc and could be easily bypassed by swapping another SIM into the phone without a lock.

Every phone ive owned since like 2003 (smartphone or not) has had a device lock code....

Cheers for the pointers although well aware what a simlock is, it's merits and other phones etc etc The posting was advisory for those 'unaware' of the skip option and/or not using device lock alongside sim lock.

If you happen to be aware and fully aufait with the above then bingo no worries.
