You know, I had the same problem until I reflashed for other reasons. I figured that some app I had loaded was causing it.
when I turn on my n900 and the boot-video starts playing, it does so at a disturbingly high volume.
I know the device is running ALSA as the sound system and I've tried to lower the levels on some playback sources in alsamixer (obviously with poor results) and now it feels like I'm wondering in the dark.
Could anyone give me some hints or better yet a solution to this?
