I've updated sidplay2's ALSA support so that it compiles with modern ALSA, thus making it compile for Maemo. sidplay2 is much more CPU demanding than sidplay1, but it has superb sound quality. In addition to that, unlike sidplay1, it plays virtually all SID files.

- One-click install for Chinook/Diablo
- Weblog entry

If you prefer playback time over sound quality, also see sidplay1.

Hello there

Hmmm, as I count myself among the SID music nerds (I've been following the HVSC since way back, contributing a couple tunes that I found missing in the collection on the way), I'm wondering if there is a good SID player for maemo5 (as on the N900)?

Any news would be highly appreciated!!

Cheers,
/jochen

MSID works a treat you can download sids and pictures through the app but i just placed all my sids in the sid directory after it was installed and it picked them up straight away.
caution !! I think its in extras-devel still - i thought i should mention

it installed fine and works great tho.

There is nothing more satisfying than listening to the sacred armour of antiriad soundtrack or monty on the run, etc with headphones on now and again it takes me back many years.

Also be sure to check SOASC for those songs that don't play well with software emulation. SOASC is a collection of SID tune recordings on /real/ hardware in MPEG audio. Obviously SOASC isn't nowhere as compact as HVSC, but some of those songs on real hardware are simply worth the trouble.

Unfortunately SOASC downloads are not always online.

A useable ringtone compatable format ripper for MSID would make my day. btw, MSID doesn't like PSID format. Other than that, great, quick and well written little program.
