Hi,

i bought a transcend 8GB SDHC (Class 6) several weeks ago and
used it in the internal card slot of my N800. Today my second transcend
card (same model) arrived and I put it in the external slot.

While downloading a 700MB iso (with wget) from my local ftp
for testing purposes, I got an input/output error. After that I couldn't
access the card anymore. Rebooting the device didn't help... the card isn't
recognised anymore! My HAMA sdhc card reader also doesn't recognise this card anymore.
After testing the other card with the same procedure in the external slot, I got
the same input/output error and this card is also defect now!
I have tested three transcend sdhc cards until now ... and all three gone bad
in the external slot... damn
My 1GB Navicore sd card works without problems in the external slot.

Could it be that the external slot is defective? How could that be...
I would understand if an input/output error would result in a defect partition
or somthing similar ... but corrupting the whole card?!

Did someone else had similar problems with sdhc cards???
Should I send my N800 to nokia for repair? (I don't want to do this...
I read to much bad info about nokia repairs )

EDIT:
I used the first card with the old 3.2007 firmware and sdhc kernel...
Tests with external slot were done with the new 4.2007 firmware.

Hi,
I've had similar problems with 2GB SD cards on the external slot. My N800 has corrupted 3 SD cards so far...

This might be related to downloading / saving a "big" file to the SD card. First time I was downloading a podcast (~40MB) from the net and the last time I was creating a backup (~45MB) before firmware update.

These cards are Sandisk micro SD cards and working really well on mobile phone, pocket pc device and Digital camera. I did have a bunch of these in use on various devices, but now N800 has eaten all my spare ones.

Were you able to "repair" your cards with your pc? Or are they completely damaged like mine?

If you haven't already done so, please post your experience to Bugzilla and vote for it:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1204

It seem like this new firmware really messed up this issue big time!

So far I haven't been able to recover them.

I have already posted my experience and voted for this bug! But this doesn't
repair my sdhc cards

The main questions is: should I buy another sdhc card or should I send my N800 for repair??? Is this really a software only problem?

Did you try "Panasonic sdformatter"? This could be your last hope.
I weren't able to reformat my damaged sdhc cards

Understand... I have also destroyed one 2GB SD card completely. Another 4GB one is also not usable any more. (It still works but corrupts very quickly when copying data to it, especially large files.) This is the third 8GB card I have that corrupted yesterday with the new firmware! I still can read it but can not run windows disk check utility with it. (I don't have external SDHC card reader to try with that.) The only hope is trying to reformat it now.

I also suspect that this seem more like hardware issue. For your reference my tablet is Made in Korea and its WiFi number (serial) is 00194FD4E28B. Maybe we can track this down to some certain batch and could negotiate Nokia to send us all replacement tablet?

My tablet is made in Finland. Serial 00194F9E950C.
An official statement from nokia would be nice. But I don't think that
they will give us much info about this problem. We never received an
official statement to the touchscreen issue.

Another problem is that we could not ask other people to voluntarily kill their
sd cards And I am not sure if I should risc another try with another sdhc card.

I think is time for Nokia to come out of the woods and admit this new firmware was a disaster waiting to happen! we are a bunch of guinea pigs for them. It is obvious... There is way to many problems with this new firmware for them not to know at least the basic problems they where going to encounter.
