hi all..i read over alot of forums that the n900 will have a new mayor firmware....
but i saw that the "new features" dont include the "PORTRAIT MODE" why not ??
alot of people want that mode...why ? im gonna to tell you why (post why u need portrait)

1) more easy to use the cellphone (one hand)
2)to send sms,chat or web browser
3)see photos,videos

post why u need portrait

Wanting something doesn't mean getting it.
Portrait mode isn't going to be in Maemo 5. Confirmed. Making threads like this is pointless.

Honestly everything that i need portrait mode for is already set up for portrait mode. the only way i would benefit from portrait mode in the sms would be if it came with t9 prediction. otherwise i wouldn't need it

Video in portrait mode... ?C`mon dude u cant be serious.Photos can be rotated,u can browse the web in portrait mode.Other than that portrait mode would be a nice feature.

I voted no. Not because I am opposed to having portrait mode. But because the N900 has a list of missing features that you1) would expect in every phone, cheap or expensive. I believe those should be prioritized before this, and I believe there is a limited amount of resources being put into post-sales upgrades.

IMHO, Portrait mode would not be nice for Desktop
It has to be landscape mode; imagine a PC Windows Desktop goes into Portrait mode when you turn the monitor around

Besides, the Desktop concept isn't like other smartphone Home screen which are pretty static (how to put in words?).
Imagine if we've arrange our N900 Desktop nicely according to our preference and what will happen if it were to switch to Portrait mode? Just like what I mentioned, imagine a PC Windows Desktop goes into Portrait mode, or perhaps think about laptops/netbook/tablet pc.

However, messaging to support Portrait mode would be a nice to have option, but I believe it'll feel awkward in Portrait mode and there won't be on-screen keyboard, only keypad. Besides, for long text messages, it'll not be nice to read in Portrait mode.
Nonetheless, it's still a nice to have feature.

Web Browser already supports Portrait mode. There're also few apps that supports Portrait mode.
