Why should this happen? Its not done this before.

I did however have it flashed last week.

You mean the speaker?, you're probably hitting it on the screen with your ear by accident

well thats a bit crap if so.

Unfortunately I cant reflash it myself to see whether its picked up the issue from something else. Dont know why. Have tried repeatedly and following the instructions in wiki.

Think I am going to hold out for one of the new phones like the HTC supersonic or legend, send this back to Nokia for reinstallation and flog it. Its a poor excuse for a phone anyway but switching onto handsfreee by holding it to my ear really is the bottom line! It could be so much more but 4 months down the line its not improving.

My phone did the same thingthe first time I used it, but I couldn't turn it off... I was dialing the number and listened for a ring, got nothing so looked at the screen but then it went to speaker phone.

It almost seemed like it was a "smart" function where the phone detects it's away from the face so auto switches to speaker phone...

Problem was that I couldn't turn it off, pressing the speaker button does nothing, this has happened twice now but not recently.
