There are no stupid ideas. Just people who lack the imagination to see the potential.

Getting MilkyTracker working on the N900 would probably be more realistic. There is already an ubuntu version.

MilkyTracker looks good - all we need now is some clever person to do the magic to make this work on Maemo5/N900 - anyone up for the challenge? I wish I could....

I was thinking something more akin to Korg's DS-10 for the DS. I use FL Studio myself, and it's great. Glad to see fellow user in the Maemo world.

i dont think this is stupid at all, it would be good to have a portable version of FL. been using fl for a few years and i even won an award for a track i made on their. i was using beatmaker on iphone and its preety cool as you can make ur own tunes from scratch. just didnt like using my fingers.

Yeah, having a similiar touch-based UI and keeping the synth somewhat minimal would be ace on N900.

The question is: how would the synth work? Even though N900 is powerful compared to most smartphones, I'm not sure how well it can handle audio processing.

The audio (DSP) on the orginal DS wasn't any kind of champ. It did sound but from everythign I've read was now where near amazing. The new DSi has a much improved DSP.

Based on this I would say the N900 could handle it no problem. I would wager the DSP in the iPhone is no better or worse than the N900s. On top of that any high end sound processing could be offloaded to the CPU should it be too much for the DSP.
