hi guys,

first of all, it was my stupid mistake and i know how to reflash:-)

so, what happened? i tried out conboy, its a good app, but
copy&paste didn't worked for me as i tweaked for instance
shift+right cursor key in the original hardware keyboard layout
rx-51 before. this key combo is needed for marking text in conboy.

i guess some other german users also tweak their hw keyboard
layout for playing games etc but maybe they should better use
existing apps for modding:-)

the idea was to unset shift + right cursor key in the line

key <RGHT>{ [Right, period,period, period] };

by dropping the 2nd and 3rd period, i.e.

key <RGHT>{ [Right, period, , ] };

The result is that my n900 does not boot anymore (i only
see animated six bullets) and that i cant ssh to the device
to correct rx-51.

as i had to clean up / for the next firmware update my mistake
is not so serious and maybe just in time.

you can try R+D mode to stop your device from rebooting and then edit over ssh

im online with the n900 so i cant post detailed instructions sorry

you can also check out the wiki i think. r+d mode has also some special bootflags that prevent reboot on error

This is why you should use "setxkbmap" after you edit the file to see if there are any errors, if there are errors you just revert the changes. Plus you don't need to reboot after each change.

First off, if you like modding your N900, ALWAYS keep a recent backup of yor system, it pretty much restores most of the things.

About the layout:
You can't leave those places empty. Besides, the ones you deleted are Fn+Right and Fn+Shift+Right.

Here is what you want:
key <RGHT> { [ Right, Right, period, period ] };

This will allow you to make a selection with Shift+Right.

However, remapping the Fn+arrow keys has another unwanted side-effect: you can't use them while editing a phone number anymore.

You should also have an alternate boot partition (using bootmenu). Then, you can always boot to the other partition, mount the ubifs root, and correct the problems that prevent it from booting.

I haven't tried bootmenu yet, but read the page.
What is the menu button it talks about?
http://wiki.maemo.org/Mer/Documentation/Bootmenu
Remember that you need to press the menu button as you boot to access the bootmenu.
And about the topic. Link to the instructions how to tweak keyboard would be nice. I've planned to tweak mine too, because arrow keys up+down are cumbersomly behind the Alt-key. (Sure I can google it, but anyway.)
