As I am working with a linux pc I'll have to look further how to flash the memory, even if I'd like to avoid those radical solutions.

And mkfs is giving the same kind of error.

Looks like a reflash of the eMMC is required then

Okay so I will look for a tutorial to do this. But one question. For any reflash I have to get the sim card out of the phone right ?

No, you can leave the SIM card in - see http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware for instructions. And do make a backup before you reflash (if you can), as you'll wipe absolutely everything on there (other than the microsd card).

okay one last question before my reflash. Do I need to do the FIASO/rootfs flash first ? There is no link, but I will look for it, once I now, that I need it

reflash the eMMC and it should be back to normal but you'll lose everything

the reflash guide is still somehow confusing to me. It is written that I mustn't reflash if I have a normal n900. Then it is written that I must reflash the rootfs image first, but there is no description how to do it. I could just reflash the emmc, but it seems to me like I am missing something here . Sorry for all those question, but I am somehow feared to destroy my phone otherwise.

All of that page above the eMMC section is about flashing the rootfs. There's links right at the top to download the flasher and the firmware, then just follow the appropriate section for the desktop OS you'll be using.

trying to reflash my device with vanilla, error code 2 appears. Nokia want me to have it on the warranty, but it is not covered in Brazil, where I live. (n900 bought in spain).

Anyone would have some idea on how to reflash/reformat my device from a lower level?

Hi, I tried to reflash it now under Ubuntu 64-bit. The OS stuff is working fine, but when I want to flash the emmc image I always get the same error :
Suitable USB device not found, waiting.
USB device found found at bus 001, device address 040.
Found device RX-51, hardware revision 2101
NOLO version 1.4.14
Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_MR0
Booting device into flash mode.
Suitable USB device not found, waiting.
USB device found found at bus 001, device address 041.
Raw data transfer EP found at EP2.
SU_GET_UPDATE_STATUS_REQ terminated with error code 1.
Is it the reboot that is starting it self always after the first flasher ? Sorry for all those questions
