The chess game is horribly inflexible and someday there will be a better one, not for playing the computer but for playing humans online. I have scid and xboard installed in Easy Debian. I have an easy setup that the chess game always falls for, but it is not interesting to play -- computer chess is rarely interesting -- when it wins, the comp just takes a pawn or something and eventually wins -- you rarely get a beautiful line of play.

I have beaten a couple of computers in actual sit-down chess tournaments. It is no fun, IMHO.

Here the chess game called Miniature has been worked on forever and it is still not usable for the purpose it was meant for -- online play. I hope there is some progress eventually.
