No, you didn't miss a setting, the connection staying up is by design.

Seen a couple of similar threads but no definite answers
Whenever I use the wap/wifi and then finish using the browser or the email sync, the wap/wifi does not automatically disconnect
any suggestions or have I missed yet another setting
