You'd rather trade compute overhead (and most likely shorter battery life) for saving a couple KB?
I'm not sure if this place is the right one to write it, but i do it anyway.
So I bought an N900 knowing that it is different then other devices. Actually I decided not to, buy an N97 because of the idea of having a phone running with linux and having all the pro's (but also con's) connected to this fact.
But it was a bit shocking to see that there is such a little number of apps I can choose from. Didn't someone said that there are already several thousand apps for Maemo devices?
Anyhow, all I'm really looking for are the the following programs:
A Samba server (SMB) heck why isn't there one compiled already? I can understand that Nokia isn't offering it... but the community? I would also like to see AFS (apple file sharing), but SMB would be more important.
A proper app for Facebook, a widget is good, but something that is more iPhone like would be even better.
A simple Twitter widget just to enter a new tweet directly from the desktop. If I want to see the Timeline I can still start an App, but just for sending out a tweet it is pretty annoying.
A compiled version of the Apache web server. Heck even on my old HP iPaq I had an apache running under Windows CE/PocketPC 2000. I don't want a scaled down version, sometimes I need a real Apache.
A compiled Squid proxy. It would be a good idea to have a proxy running on the same machine. just to reduce some of the web traffic.
And a file explorer... sorry but X-plorer on my N82 was better then all of the stuff I can find for the N900 at the moment.
And why the hack didn't Nokia added a tethering app by default to the N900?
Oh and why isn't it possible to get all the SMS from the N900 via bluetooth? Shouldn't be hard to fix by some software patches.
Maybe I will do some of this by myself later, if I read up more about this platform. But U wonder why some of this isn't done already. I hope MaeGo won't be as disappointing as Maemo 5.
