Here's the problem I had with your comparison, though: The Intel hardware platform is very long established, going back 26 years with huge amounts of software available. The Internet Tablet platform is less than two years old, and has comparatively little software support. If you want to make a valid comparison to the Intel platform, you need to look at it when it was a couple of years old - the original IBM PC and PC/XT. And yes, at that time IBM published many applications for the PC under their aegis. They knew that it was important to provide at least basic solutions for a new platform, in the critical early adoption period when third-party support had not ramped up to the level needed to keep the platform afloat.

The IT currently isn't the primary device, it is a mobile companion device, next to my smartphone. I am not trying to say that PIM functions aren't useful in the right context and right device, but I don't really see the tablet currently being that right device. And once again, resources are not infinite.
I don't personally use a ToDo list, but it seems to be popular and I wouldn't think a basic one (list of text fields with a check-off) should be hard to do. A simple, clean interface is important, though; that's one thing Palm got right at the very beginning, and that's what keeps the GPE applications from being useful for me on the IT.

After all, most Nokia phones support Over The Air (OTA) SyncML configuration files - ie the SyncML server sends an SMS to the phone to configure it up without any user involvement - obviously the IT can't support an incoming SMS, but an easy to use wizard would seem the next best thing.

The rest of July and August shall be spent meditating. But come September I shall have to choose... Any hints welcome :-)
