BTW, I have tried it with NTSC before because my computer LCD panel visibly blinks when there is PAL signal on its composite output.

Few days ago I tried in with my LCD TV and PAL resolution. In PAL I can set Y resolution to be exactly 480 and everything is still visible. X dimension is hopeless since it cannot reach 800 anyway but when Y is 480, everything is only squashed horizontally and text (in browser, xterm and everywhere) is quite nice to read. Well unless one scrolls the screen, scrolling is quite ugly :-)

Hm, don't know if was it the TV issue, it's said to be HD-ready but the resolution was far from 800x480, something like 400x300 at best.

fanoush, how do I run that script you posted? Can I create a file to put on my desktop? Will this increase the output size to my lcd?

Hi my problem is next, i use a 5800 xpressmusic on my eonon car stereo and it works perfectly sound and video works fine it uses the same cable as the n900, but when i plug the n900 theres no output of nothing video or audio i try to turn on the stereo with the rca cable connected and nothing, try rebooting the n900 and nothing, but the curious case; i unmounted the stereo to see what my be the problem so i attach the video output to another source (the reverse camera in), then unplug and plug the cable, doing this causes that the audio on the aux input stars working then i plug the video out to the correct video in source (AUX video in), and it works YEAY; but when i unplug and plug the cable theres no audio and video all over again. So my cuestion is:

Is there any way to force the activation of the video output because it sems that the AUX video in of the car stereo doesn't recognize anything if its not sending a signal and since the n900 doesnt sends a signal if not detects a source well its practically imposible to make it works with my car stereo.

    Ok, so I'm a geek.

iVision 640x480 glasses being used with a N900, was watching a video but then wondered if the glasses would show the camera screen for taking pics of myself, and... yup, it worked.

I have a similar issue. My N900 doesn´t recognize the TV and my 5800 doesn´t have a problem.
But if a connect the N900 to a euroconector using an adaptor it works. Then I plug it in the video conector of the TV without unplugging the cable from the phone and it works, If I unplug the cable from the phone and plug in again it doesn´t work anymore.

I think it must be a software problem. I would prefer if it worked like the 5800 and you had to tell the phone what king of accesory you plug in and it showed in the status menu.

I believe it is a problem with the Kernel software. Somewhere the tvout software got messed up. If I boot Titans OC kernel, only audio plays through TV out. If I load the Omap1 default kernel then everything works through tvout except on device recorded video. If I load the OC kernel again, it goes back to only audio. In my instance, I believe my kernel was messed up during the leaked PR1.2 and it carried over to the Nokia Omap1 kernel as even then I cant play videos recorded on the N900 via tvout.

I am not a programmer so I don't know how to validate any of this. All I know is that my tvout experience varies depending on the kernel that I have loaded.

Is it possible to load a PR1.1 or earlier kernel (not firmware) to possible get tvout working and then boot a newer kernel?

Is there a command line to tell the kernel that a TV is connected? Then we could put a link in the desktop and we would have a workaround until this is properly fixed.

Yes that would be the most optimum solution...

Anyone has a clue on how to do that ?
