A note of clarification on my list above. Some of the items were things that I can do for (as opposed to on) the N800, like MediaConverter, but I got carried away with all the functionality and did not make the distinction...an important one though, thanks!

Also, I forgot one very important feature: GoogleTalk IM (though now I will likely just be using Skype)

Great posting, greyghost, I hope the sceptics here will now be convinced to buy the N800. I also don't know any small device with that much functionality. Even the iPhone cannot cope.

No. And if it did, it would probably take a very long time to transcode a movie.

Well, the Nokia N95 does all of the things that Greyghost lists, and has built-in GPS and navigation as well as a built-in video recorder and 5-MP camera! In fact, just about all of the things can be done except ereader without adding additional software. And it is smaller than the N800 and the iPhone. Oh, and it's a phone too (but can do skype with free add-on sofware)

Granted it can but I would much rather do most of the activities listed on an 800 px wide screen.

Seems that still lots of people don't realize what prize they pay for a low resolution device. That includes the N95 and the iPhone.

It's like SMS vs. email.

I consider the n800 to be a low res device with its 800 wide screen.
High res starts at 1024.

Well, I own both the N800 and N95. I realize the price you pay for getting a bigger screen - a bigger device! You cannot carry the N800 around without big pockets, a bag or a jacket. And you simply cannot use the N800 to carry on calls or get e-mail while really mobile, skype or no skype - it is not ultimately mobile. Without a hot spot, the N800 is next to useless, unless you have a phone to link with! Carrying around two devices does not cut it.

Surf the web while waiting for a movie to start, while on a big line at the airport, waiting for train, forget the N800.

When I am in a hotel room (with wifi, usually not free), then the N800 shines. And btw video playing on the N95 is far better (and there is TV out).

I like both devices, but I use the N95 more for the reasons above (also has my contacts).

Remember the old days when we had our photographs printed so when friends came round we would hand them our snaps? Now our digital photos reside on our computers and who wants to sit round a computer with friends?

Quiver on the N800 combines that old fashioned sociability with digital convenience.
For some reason it says I'm unable to refresh my package list after I add the repo. Any fix for this?

Probably a typo. The repo for quiver is as follows (and I just verified it):

Distribution: bora
Components: main
