Hi I am just wondering about how the n800 is with kismet and mapping software. I really want to buy a N800 but i'm hesitant about it just in case I can't upload the data to a map particularly Adelaide Australia....

So any links screenshots and especially HOWto's for the setup

Please be kind I'm new

Cheers all

Also hows the speed on the n800 ---- incredibly slow? my pocket pc is dopod 810 ------ I'm not that happy with it

Kismet seems to work pretty well with recently released version of the n800 firmware (release 4). You can set up Kismet to log GPS coordinates of access points it finds if you have a bluetooth GPS.

As far as mapping software goes, the two main options are Maemo Mapper (excellent free software which uses maps from a variety of online map sites) and Nokia's own Navicore kit.

WOW --- That was speedy reply cheers.

OK i'm not to sure about the downloads for kismet though. I just checked the maemo.org site for kismet and can't find the package.

since maemo is deb based (correct me if i'm wrong) where is the package (i am not to confident with building my own from source......but if it is a straightforward operation no probs... but I definently don't have a cross compiler...)

I have heard there are many popular mainstream linux security apps available and this has REALLLLLYYYYYY made me drool for this tablet, KISMET, AIRCRACK-NG, Driftnet????

but I can't find the packages -- any info on this?

also is there a howto on maemo map conversion or is it real easy?

many many many many many thanks

Kismet works, mostly. It has occasional issues, nothing show stopping though. I still haven't been able to use my gps with it yet. Aircrack-ng is ported, but not airodump-ng, so it has pretty limited usefulness. I've not tried driftnet yet though, didn't think of that.

Also can anyone else add to this? especially with security application experiences...... again any screenshots or howtos are appreciated

This one, I'm not understanding what you want to do.
