Hey guys, i'm experiencing massive battery drain in last week or two, so i installed battery eye to see what's really happening. You can see the result in the attached image, quite a drain ain't it (half of the power over the night - the device was idle).. Anyone has a clue what my problem might be? I now uninstalled all the apps that i'm not using and i'll report if it's any better.. If any one has any suggestions i'll be more than happy to hear them.

    Ty!

The battery drain issues can be horrendous one day and non-existent the next day. It's very hard, at least for me to nail down what is causing it or what the pattern is.

Have you checked what is running and consuming CPU cycles using Conky or Top?

Previously my battery would drop 1/3 of its charge in less than an hour for no reason. I was getting about 12-15 hours a day when I reflashed first using the eMMC image then with the latest firmware. I am now getting up to 36 hours; and even after Battery Graph was at 0% I still got another 5 hours before the phone started beeping. It's made a huge difference, so might be worth a try.

The other thing is does the phone shut down when Battery Graph gets to 0% or is this when you plug it in and recharge? Prehaps if you let the phone go completely flat it may reset the battery charge varibles and battery charge levels may get displayed differently.

    Good luck.

Every now and then I notice that on my phone the pulseaudio daemon starts using a lot of resources even when idle after some audio activity (phone call, flash audio etc.). Easy to check using, e.g., htop. The process is typically in the top 3. That eats the battery very fast. I take care of the problem by running "killall pulseaudio" as root in the terminal. Would be nice though, if a firmware update took care of this problem for good...

You can get a bit more precise with your pulse killing and go for:
    killall tonegend
That should do the trick. Occasionally, I get the urge to:
    killall browser
    killall browserd

it seems a MAJOR portion of my battery consumption (and n900 getting hot sometimes) is due to the im protocols...

i kept them offline today and i've had my 3G data connection on almost all day and my battery is still WELL over 60% charged. when normally i need to re-juice by midday (fyi my mfe is set to always on)

i remember reading about this before (something about the protocols not being in sync or efficient when sending packets back to the server?) but i dont remember if a solution is (will be) available.

i usually have skype, ovi, jabber, gtalk, msn(pecan) online and nothing from extras or devel

can anyone offer any insight on whether my battery life should be that short with im protocols online?

    much appreciated.

    See bug #8581
    https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8581

But the solution description is a little vague and the developer provides no real before/after stats on the fix (which accounts were used, how much more battery life was gained).. will have to see.

The only solution may be to wait for 'Fring' to be officially released as they have full controls over the protocols and is known to be VERY VERY battery conservative on s60

Mode switchapplet is nice too. I stay on 2g most of the time, eats less power for IM-type loads.

    Hey guys,

I made my own thread with regards to battery consumption, and whether the email app of MfE could connect automatically, so my internet connection was not always on and draining battery. Anyway, I did some testing with various connection methods and some things that I may leave running in the background. I made a graph:

The Y axis the the mAh drain after an hour of testing.

It was interesting to note that in my tests there was no difference in consumption between 3G and 2G internet connection

Hope someone finds this info useful.
    Chris

Edit: All of the results are with Bluetooth on, but idle.
