Couldnt help but read about the new OS 4.0 for the Apple iPhone. One feature it has is 'iAD' which is advertising within Applications.

'iAd that will be used to place adverts in applications'

Advertising & Marketing certainly has a place but there are certain aspects of life that i dont want it in my face, i want out've sell sell sell. Such as when i'm using my personal device/phone and the features on it within reason.

Marketeers & advertisers aside, I'm curious if anyone see's real appeal of this to anyone other than the latter ? If anything would the pinciple not get on most people's nerves. Does anyone know how it will function, pop ups mid application or application boot up ??

Developers who dream of making their first million by age 25 on that 60% cut of the ad revenue?

Some of the free apps/games on the N97 started advertising between levels and at end of games. Each time it required you to say 'no' otherwise the game would end and a website for the sponsore launched. very annoying.

Not sure how apple will implement it but i had ad's anywhere.

I think it's great. I don't like the iPhone and if this "great" feature can drive more people away from it, then it's fine by me.

I wouldn't mind ads if I can get >$20 apps for free with it... and usually they offer a paid ad-free version anyway.

That's the current pattern that I notice in AppStore anyway. I've never seen any ads in non-free apps.

I dont think that when you are paying for a premium service, that you should have to suffer adverts. Yet another reason not to buy into apple.

@bonerp: You misunderstand the concept. They intend the advertising to be used to fund the free apps.

I'm sure if a non-free app includes advertising in it, the creator will get public backlash.
