free apps should be supported by Apple - not at the sufferance of the user. You are still paying a premium price for the device let alone the mobile contract.

Something tells me that some iphone developers are going to abuse this iAD "feature" to no end :P

ok - why would I want to buy a phone then download apps that are full of adverts???? How many do this now?! Nokia doesn't. Apple doesn't. They want to entice customers to buy their premium top of the range devices because of all of the attractive extras/apps etc then smack adverts on the free apps - so I pay for the device at approx £500 then pay £30 per month line rental and subs and still get short changed and have to suffer crap ads. Thats your logic is it????
If they offer free apps isn't that part of the appeal - like the app store. However some are pay apps. Fair enough. But on the ones that are free why would I accept adverts?? Aren't these supposed to be the draw/incentive to purchase the Apple product over, for example Nokia or HTC? Most of my friends/colleagues thinks Apple must be on a death wish. Maybe you accept adverts. As a consumer paying for a product/service, I don't.

Lets keep things simple. Regardless of the technicalities, are there moments in your life when you cannot be doing with advertising ??

Anyways..

Many of the free apps out there are ad-supported already. This isn't something new to the AppStore and you can Google AdMob for numbers and trends. That's why Apple wants to make money off this sector.

Initially, I don't expect to see a major shift in apps pricing and ad appearances. But overtime, I do think that the ad revenue that you can make off a free but very popular app can be considerable; which may seduce many developers to make ad-only apps.

I'm also curious as to the implementation of said ads that you have in mind. Because these ads are small banners that you can optionally click to interact with. Not something that forces you to view certain media for a certain amount of time...

At least the sample that they've shown were designed that way.

And I should point out that this is an optional ad framework that people can use instead of the numerous other mobile ad platforms out there (including google's). There's nothing forcing free apps to come with ads (other than the prospect of financial gains).

ps: no, 'free apps' isn't 'part of the deal' when you buy an iPhone (or any other phones out there) if these apps are made by 3rd parties and it's not mentioned in the marketing material\contract to be provided for you for free.
