Those are functions in the vi program.
: is required for commands. Plus (if I remember correctly) it forces write and quit (in the case of ":wq")

Yup...though of course it is the idle time which would have the biggest impact, which is what you are increasing by increasing the frequency. So while running, your calculations make sense but in reality, ideal@810 should consume less power than stock.

sure. it's just the max. current that could damage the chip. so the damage would not be larger than with 600@stock.

just OC'd mine,

the re-flash took 'bout 1.5 secs only. I thought the re-flash was unsuccessful, but according to healthcheck app, my device is running at Freq 800MHz.

does this mean the OC is a success?

A similar relationship exists for heat generated as well...so serious OC would probably kill the chip due to excess heat.

Even the Droid guys have come to the same conclusion that c. 800MHz is the maximum safe frequency to operate this chip.

By the way, battery life improvement by running ideal kernel within [500,850] is quite remarkable.
