Gday gday all.

On trying to delete files from my sdhc card my 900 wont allow. It keeps saying the file is read only. This is from any folder on the sdhc whilst there are no problems deleting from any folder on the main memory.

Its not a problem i've noticed before so assume something has inadvertantly changed and caused this. Nothing comes to mind that i've done. Any suggestions ??

Not something like the back cover being slightly loose?

Can you put the memory card in anything else and access it/delete from it?

Evening, delayed reply as work took over.

Back cover check - OK

Memory Card put into USB adapter - OK (files deleted ok via my pc's file manager manager)

Pit the card back in the 900 and same thing, wont delete files as read only

At this point it seems the N900 file manager has decided the card is read only.

For the life of me i've not a clue what caused this. Certainly deleted files off it via file manager the other week without problem.

Out've the 16Gb there's only 1.7'ish gig left. Daft Que, but does the N900 use part or the card as a ram/virtual mem ?? If it does i would expect 1.7Gb free to be more than sufficient.

Run a file system check on the card using a windows machine. It's probably corrupted.

Edit: Or do
Code:
sudo gainroot
umount /media/mmc1
fsck.vfat -a /dev/mmcblk1p1
on the device.

I am doing that at present just in case but the card is performing fine outside of the 900. If the card was corrupted would it not be the same wherever used ??

Different systems could handle a corrupt card differently.

If corruption is not the problem, then try searching bugs.maemo.org for similar problems.

Happened to me once. The way I fixed it was plugging the N900 in my PC (windows 7) and when I got a pop up asking me whether to scan and fix the problems I did so and everything worked fine thereafter. Hope this helps!

SORTED

From within Windows File Manager with the card plugged into the windows pc via a usb adapter.

Selected the card then right click, properties_tools_error checking_tick the two tickboxes_start

Let it run for 15 mins. Popped the card back in the 900 and bingo, NOW able to delete.

So the gold medals goes to hqh & Parlapipas, thanks for the pointers.

Mucho appreciated.

As for what caused it not a clue however i've loaded the card up with masses of music in recent times so maybe something in that. Anyway problem solved and if it happens again i now know a fix.

A couple hours ago I had the same problem with the 30GB internal storage, and I fixed it with this procedure (fsck'd the microsd while I was at it too). But man it didn't feel good when I got that read-only error
