I found my N900s touch screen almost completely unresponsive this morning, some touches would trigger the menu button, but nothing else. Oh, the phone also went back into an annoying alarm.

Another thread here noted that jiggling the power button might fix weird touch screen issues, well that did the trick. Thanks guys!

Can anyone tell me why jiggling the power button might have fixed this problem? A loose connections and/or moisture might be the culprit, no?

We're not talking about some runaway process because reboots, battery removal, holding power button, etc. never fixed the problem. In fact, the alarm would trigger while off but the touch screen remained unresponsive.

Could the alarm program itself have somehow caused this?

p.s. If I've got this problem again, does the N900 have some form of single user mode, or usb access trick?

For me this happens almost every time I end a call, it's not "jiggling" the power button that fixes it, it's something in the way double pressing the power button locks and then unlocks the screen, I think it completely deactivates and reactivates it, which apparently fixes the problem.

I was waiting for PR1.2 to file a bug report..... lol

Yes, I'm now experiencing the problem more often too.

Do you suspect the problem might be caused by some option, maybe lock screen automatically? Any chance restore original setting might fix the problem? Oh, what does restore original settings effect?

I'd never experienced this problem before monday. I think the only changes that I'd made to the phone during the two preceding days were putting several gigs of photos onto the phone and installing vpnc.
