the appl. manager tells me i can upgrade python 2.5 RE from 0.4-8 to 0.4-11.

the update fails, though. error:
Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...-10_armel.deb: 404 Not Found

In fact, when I enter this url manually in the browser, i get a 404. if i go to the directory, it shows the file. (http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...e/r/readline4/)

am i the only one? whats wrong here?

I had a similar problem recently but it couldn't find the libbluetooth1 file (something like that). I actually loaded up the base repository in my browser and looked for the file in some of the other distribution repositories (my sources.list specified bora and mistral). I found the file in the gregale section of the repository and made sure I could download it through my browser, then added "gregale" to my sources.list. Ran the install again, the installer found it this time and wham bam I was good to go

I havent been here long but there seem to be a lot of threads caused by crunched or outdated repos .

The Installer logfile is a big help in identifying which file and which repo is to blame.

I dont really get it. What am I supposed to edit? And why is this happening at all? Python isnt such an exotic package, is it? Other people should have had this problem before...

Apologies , I didn't really check to see if the file was there.

There is a directory with the correct name but there appears to be nothing in it

How about this one ?

Tantalus, are you suggesting I'd get libreadline from the eko.one.pl/.... rep? Probably yes, the file seems to be there.

Still what I dont understand is that I seem to be the only one getting this error. Python is a popular package, isnt it? I would have expecteda lot of people clicking on this update and all of them getting the same error. This is very mysterious.

Yes

Occasionally hiccups - like the one you found - happen.

If the file is available elsewhere then go for it, at least you will be able to upgrade.

Be nice, say thankyou to people that help you , and stick a note on a public forum to say if it works. That way people will be more likely to help you out next time, and others with the same problem can find your solution by searching for it.

Tantalus, thank you for pointing me to the file.

Still, I'd better not get it from there - if I do, I'll not be able to follow the status of this issue.

I'm more concerned with the "why" - it's not that I really need this one update.

Well either you want to update or you don't.

As for why a file is missing from where somebody said it might be....... I think, like a lot of linux stuff, it is put together by people for free in their spare time and published out of generosity and kind heartedness. If a file is missing by mistake, it can probably be found somewhere else, no big deal is it ?
