Interesting that some are having their settings maintained. I don't have a spare battery so don't swap. But when my phone is acting up I take out the battery for a minute or so for a hard reset and when I put it back in I have to enter date and time settings. Pretty annoying I think.

I also experience this, and I change the battery everyday and have always used the same genuine Nokia battery. I'd guessed origianlly that I had to reset time and date every tenth battery change. For the last couple of weeks however I have had to reset on every battery change. I have never used x terminal, have never needed to flash and have only ever used one application from Devel Repo.

Due to N900 designed flaws, there is no emergency battery for the bios to keep the date and time setting intact like other devices. eg: symbian.

The N900 cannot keep the date and time setting for more than 10seconds after the battery is taken out or depleted completely. That is why when the battery is low to 4% threshold, the device will shut it self down and going in a coma to save it's setting from being lost.

If you changing battery, you will have to do it very quickly within the 10seconds time frame, otherwise N900 will result in amnesia symtom.

I hope my explaination is clear and helpful. I hope the software is smart enough to preserve the setting and syncronise it with the provider in the future.
Tx for the explanation ..

Would explain why i was getting it every time then.....

try switching simm cards and getting the battery back in within 10 seconds!!! Impossble lol

pull sim out, replace battery for a bit, then put the new sim in quickly. may help.

i never knew the n900 was missing a backup battery! damn its the small things you dont notice you needed so bad!

So I can conclude that the capacitor in mine has deteriorated over time (4 months) to a point at which it cannot retain settings for far less time than the original 10 seconds.

I have used spare batteries for years on different Nokia tablets and have changed batteries multiple times a day on most days and have never noticed this. I guess I'm fast --hang on a sec...

I just took out the battery on my N900. I'm going down to the refrigerator and when I come back I'll put in a new one.

Back. Put in the battery, booting up. Didn't have to reset the time or date. They are both still correct. It takes me way more than ten seconds to go down stairs, drink some Silk and come back.

Edit: Post 3000. I'm no Texrat, but considering I've never been paid by Nokia, that's a lot of bs.

congrats on 3k! i just passed 100, i'll catch u soon!

i'm guessing about a minute to a minute and a half depending whether you drink from the carton? :P so... bit long for a charge to remain, can anyone confirm whether there is a backup battery or not?

Well mine does this too. If I take the battery now and left if for more than 10seconds it will reset it self. But if you change the simcard then it also resetting as well.

I don't know why but it is the problem I always have. That's why I don't change my simcard and also replace my battery within 10seconds mark and it has never lost a setting after that.

The problem is the charge can stay longer than 10seconds sometimes and if you want to give it another test, try take the battery out and press hold the power button for 5seconds and take the simcard out and then put it back in. Put the battery and turn it on. Have a test and let me and other people on here know too.

This would be a useful information.
