There is a non-recargeable backup battery in the N900. Maybe all that time with no battery in your N900 has depleted it...

The problem is the charge can stay longer than 10seconds sometimes and if you want to give it test, try take the battery out and press hold the power button for 5seconds and take the simcard out and then put it back in. Put the battery and turn it on. Have a test and let me and other people on here know too.
This would be a useful information.
