I dont use the adapter as some have got so hot it melted, it also hapend with the n97 adapters, i think it depends on what charger is being used with the adapter.

Electronics emitting a whine/buzz is quite normal, most electric things do that if you listen closely enough. And yes, my converter is also quite loud.

As for overheating, my guess is it's quite rare since there hasn't been a recall. I'm happily using mine, with an old Nokia charger (800mA I think). While it does get warm, it doesn't get excessively hot when comparing, for example, to my laptop's charger.

mine is almost silent, use it as a night time charger in my room. with my n95's old charger. however i do occasionally get a really weird noise if the phone loads a web page or such whilst the chargers in. sounds like the loading noises on a zx spectrum!

If I remember rightly... Nokia chargers pulse charge. So you get bursts of high pitched noises. Is that what you are referring to?

yeah its odd,

Sometimes its REALLY loud and the pitch changes. Then other times its cold and not making a noise ( but says its still charging )

It occurs on all my older chargers, even on my Mother's phone and charger which is about 10 years old now. Never been anything more than an annoyance though.

I believe it's just the nature of the electronics within the charger itself, nothing sinister or anything =]

The will of course get hot though, old, old chargers used electro-magnetic coils to drop the voltage (240 here in UK) to something like 5volts. Newer ones may be switchmode, which rather than coils of wire use electronics to change voltage.

No energy transfer is 100% efficient, so you loose some energy in heat. The same can be applied with chargers. Imagine a lightbulb, they get hot during use... this can be an example of energy being wasted. Heat can be useful, but not for lighting your room. One reason energy saving bulbs save energy is because they don't waste as much energy in heat.

That all being said, I can't hear you charger from here, so can't say for certain if it's normal or not. Personally, I'd keep using it. If you're concerned, then buy a new one =p
