sounds like a common problem. mine did it last night.

put it on charge, and by this morning, dead as a post. just orange light on solid.wont charge, wont switch on. nada.

so, went and got spare battery. works fine. tried to plug it and it didnt come up charging.

gave lead a wiggle and it started charging..

i think its muck on the usb contacts. will try cleaning later.

oh, and you do know that the n900 is unable to charge if it cant power up dont you?

Yes, I would recommend getting hold of a spare battery and trying that. It's always useful to have some pre-charged batteries lying around. I have a total of 5 (might be a bit over the top - but I wanted to use it long-haul without having access to a charger on board an aircraft).

Try a spare battery.

Yeah I know it can't charge, but if I put my battery into a phone that uses the same sort and charge that phone, it should charge it.

I'll see what the phone shop can do. I just am wondering why the phone would act up so much if it were just a battery issue... surely the battery doesn't make the phone vibrate non stop while the phone is off. :|

I have the same problem, but mine do get recognized by windows when booting with u, but the Nokia Updater can't find it.

Yeah, it would be better if at least the computer recognised it.

God I hope the USB isn't lose.

Its been nearly 24 hours now so what have you done about getting the battery charged?

This is a terrible problem that nokia should def. address. Do a recall or pay us like apple paid me when theyh had a faulty back cover on my ipod nano and someone filled a class action lawsuit on behalf of all the users or do something but fix these terrible usb ports. I am two months without phone because of nokia and all they keep telling me is to send it in again and again. I didnt pay 600 dollars to not have a phone for 2 months that is rapidly losing value.

Well none of my friends seem to have a phone with the same battery, so that's out of the question. I have gone into an Optus Shop, where I was told I could take it to Nokia Care like 30 mins away from me and they can look at it. They also said something stupid like the battery was an American one and Australian phones don't use it (which I know isn't true). I then went to a Vodaphone store where they basically said that they can't charge the battery and Nokia Care is expensive even to just have a look at the phone (which they might not even do seeing as it's an overseas model), and said to take it to some mobile repairs guy who is good and cheap and he'll take a look at it.

Honestly, I don't want to have to pay to fix a phone with a problem that Nokia is responsible for, and am really worrying that it's not the batteries fault as the phone won't charge or turn on even with the battery out and when the phone is plugged into a power source.

The last thing I can do is take it to a smaller mobile phone store that said I could bring the phone in and they could look at the battery, but I doubt it will really be any help, and then take it to the store the Vodaphone guy recommended and ask if there is any option of him having just a look at it for no cost (which I doubt he would).

Looks like I'm going to have to send it back to the USA agent that shipped the phone to me and then for him to ship the phone to Nokia in the USA to get fixed.

I'm really vexed right now!

Just a little update for everyone:

I tried a new battery in it and it worked fine, but still didn't charge. Then one night I tried taking the battery out, plugging in the USB cable and putting the battery in while holding U and it booted miraculously, and everything worked fine. I charged it to full battery and played around with it, and it was all back to normal!

So I left it on the charger overnight, and when I wake up to check it, the phone is back to the way it was before: won't turn on, won't charge etc. I've tried the battery trick above and tried holding U with no luck.

When the battery is in a faint NOKIA screen is shown with no backlight and it doesn't go away until you take the battery out. I tried the trick above and sometimes it'll stay on the faint no backlight NOKIA screen and the little USB symbol at the top right hand corner will come on, and the computer will make a noise like it's found a USB device, but then the symbol will go away and the computer will make the Eject noise and the phone isn't recognised. I can't boot it at all and it's all back to how it was when it first broke.

Any help? I want to just flash the phone, but I can't get my computer to recognise it and when I try and run the flasher the phone just disconnects and sometimes endlessly reboots until I take the battery out.
