I came across this interesting Russian NIT site through a link Kroll posted: http://www.n8xx.com

There's a bunch of interesting discussions and some software development that I don't know if we've seen 'over here'.
Since my Russian is close to non existing I am using the built-in translator in Chrome and even though it does an ok job there is still a lot that doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, do check the site out (in translation mode if you're like me).

    Some of the things I'm looking at trying to figure out more about are;

    1) 'Sleep' Application for OS2008 that turns off the device/sound after X minutes
Appears to be an applet on the desktop where you can define for how long the device should be on until it shuts down/goes quiet (useful as a 'sleep' mode). Can't seem to find out what version, if any, is one to try.

    2) If the HeReader comic reader is also available for Diablo
Looks great but appears to be for N900. I wonder if there is a Diablo version.

The first is a desktop applet which will stop audio player and switch your tablet to offline mode then the time is up. It's a bit undone, but the creator of it (Mitrandir) works on other project now (Telescope) and I don't whant to divert him. But I promise, when the Telescope will done — I do will make him to make this applet work with any audio players. (For example YouAmp 0.6.0~beta4-1 doesn't work)

I don't think there is a diablo version of HeReader. But you may try to build your own HeReader from the source code.

I know English a little bit better than you know Russian, but I will try to answer your questions.

I installed SweetDreams and yes, it's a bit basic (I'd love to be able to customize how the applet looks and the 'sleep times', etc) - and I just tried it out for what I personally would use it for: listening to a podcast using Panucci at night whilst almost falling asleep.

I set it for '10 minutes' and started up my podcast and Panucci and what happened was that when the time is up the device goes into 'offline' mode and locks the keyboard. It didn't silence/stop Panucci as that continued to play though.

Yep, It works well with built-in audio player... It will be "fixed" later
Actually I know how to make this applet work with Panucci and other players. But, as I said, Mitrandir works on other project right now...

BTW, where did I poste the link on n8xx?

I think there was a link to n8xx on a page you linked to for the Tear upgrade.

Thanks for your interest to our russian forum.

Yes, SweetDreams now stops only builtin media player and players based on it. But any other player support can be easily added once it has dbus or other way to stop it. I'm pretty sure that Panucci has one.

If you know whan dbus call i should make in order to stop panucci, please let me know, and i will add support for it

Of course, set of time buttons can be easily changed too.

Also, SweetDreams provides no support for stopping the countdown. It should be certainly fixed, but, you know, fixing the software that i'm personally don't use is not so fun as writing new stuff...

BTW, if there would be any interest, Kroll or me can write posts in english when something interesting appears on n8xx.com

Let me promote myself a bit more

This can be interesting for ones who use non-english kbd layouts:
LayoutSwitcher is a statusbar applet that:
    * shows your current keyboard layout
    * can prevent onscreen keyboard appearing (useful for n800 users)
    * provides alternative way to copy selected text (useful when there is no corresponding menu, for example in Pidgin's logs)
    * also works on OS2006 and OS2007 (but can't block keyboard on OS2006)

By the way, on n8xx.com we use many idioms and metaphors that make a special russian internet-tablets related slang. I wonder how google traslate will understand these words:
таблетка (pron. "tabletka"; literally, "the pill") - the internet tablet (because of consonance with "tablet")
ББ (abbreviated "Большой Брат", literally "The Big Brother") - the desktop PC (from "1984")
    ... and more

I think there might be something useful for you in this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33215&page=7

And, yes from what I saw on the Russian site there might be things/developments that come up there that we might very well be interested in over here so please do make some 'news' posts over here as well if you can find the time
