download the current pc suite from nokia
http://europe.nokia.com/support/down...nd-download#30

install it maybe reboot your windows a few times and then you should be ready to go, plugin your n900 tap pc suite mode and go ahead.

the functions are restricted further I cant help but maybe your version doesnt support the n900 yet are you on 7.1?

oh and for pure installing stuff you dont need the pc suite, I am not sure if it still works but you may be able to install from file, so use masstorage mode put the .deb files onto your device, unplug wait for it to settle and browse with the file manager to the directory and tap the file, sometimes you need to watch out for dependencies to be installed first

you may also search the wiki for setting up usb networking to make use of the app-manager

There's no functionality for installing via the PC as there is on Symbian. You can download the applications there, copy them over, and install them on the N900, but you'll run straight into dependency issues (i.e. the app will depend on half a dozen libraries, will will each depend on several others, etc) - this is all automatically taken care of by the software on the N900.

A better bet is to use a WLAN connection, or if that's not an option, look into USB networking instead.

its really annoying as it installs pc suite, then tells you to install OVI and then after ages installing that tells you its not compatible with OVI.
I'm afraid you will have to use a USB lead for most things, yep top notch device and a USB lead.....
