I somewhat cite the known Intel "Cripple AMD" compiler function for a lot of woes. Unscientific guess, btw.

And as a Flash/Flex dev, I find the fact that most browsers have used the older Netscape model for plugins. Time for an overhaul, like the one Chrome is thinking about doing.

And if the discussion is about long-forgotten bugs, I think the one MS had for the DOS exploit that was 20+ years old is second only to a few 25+ year old UNIX bugs, like this one.
AFAIK, Flash is not compiled with the Intel Compiler..

I don't see what the argument is. HTML5 is new and flash does a semi decent job of delivering relatively the same content that I can access using either my desktop or my mobile.
we will never get it. look at pr 1.2 for example

They're dropping NPAPI (I erroneously thought it was NSAPI earlier) for a more internal build/lower level plugin architecture... starting with Flash.

One take on that.

Thanks. I was being quite unscientific with my guess; however I have noticed slight differences when Flash runs on different processors with similar performance levels, but different manufacturers.

Lets not be fooled - flash is ****, its buggy as **** and it's only recently it's been able to use my GPU which has been sat there doing **** all.

But we still need it, personally I'd rather have something else replace it, I don't care what it is but ideally open source and able to use my GPU.

Even acrobat is ****, especially on Linux, its leaks memory like a ****in waterbucket.

But I still don't agree with jobs, calling the Adobe flash as closed system! Stupid **** - like the iphone is an 'open system'

Until HTML5 video becomes a standard that won't cost people an arm and a leg in licenses - H.264 is too expensive for Mozilla: read this - or Ogg Theora is implemented or... hell, it becomes universally equal and ran across the board, then I'd take that portion of HTML5 serious.

But as it stands, to think that Flash is just for animations and/or advertisements is incredibly myopic.

And if people can't support CSS 1/2/3 fully and properly, and so far even Canvas isn't fully supported across the board the same yet between the browsers... my hope that HTML5 will be fully usable for all of my projects and run the same across the browsers is running real low.

BTW, Mr. Jobs seems like a tool to me.
Flash needs to die, or evolve into something that runs much better and does not bring many systems to a crawl.

Also, I am not an apple fanboy, but Steve Jobs is one of few truly amazing and charismatic people. Look at what he created - like it or not. Apple is his vision and his life. I do not like his products, but to be able to continually pull off marketing and sometimes technological marvels so consistently requires true genius.

Steve Jobs is nothing more than a modern-day P.T. Barnum.

And stating that Flash needs to die... then what will replace all aspects of it then? Hmm?

HTML5? Good luck with replacing each and every aspect of Flash that you don't seem to get are a part of the Flash Platform.

I wouldnt call him amazing. it may be his dream and vision but the sale of most Mac products are down to the best marketing team in the world. No one cares about Steve Jobs. He is just the flagman for the product. he could be a Apple shaped mascot, no one would care.

They care about the fact they are buying into the "cool" team. Most people will buy a Mac not because they run faster than PC or about triple the price. it is because they are all deemed to be trendy and the must have gadget.

I remember when Mac users were laughed at across the globe. No one liked them and the general public saw them as an alternative that they would never consider. The ipod was good and a sound device but even at the start there were other Mp3 players that were just as good for a 3rd of the price. However Apples marketing team are the truely amazing people IMHO. they have turned every missing feature of the iphone into gold dust. most people complain about the missing stuff but with the iphone its seen as leading the way as opposed to catching up

all Marketing every last bit of it
