Having cellular internet can be a great advantage during widespead internet or electrical outages. Couple years ago we had no electricity for about a week, and I was able to use my phone (charged from car charger...) to get online and check the electricity company's website to see the status of repairs in my neighborhood, get email alerts, check local news sites, etc.

True that, i got mobile broadband on my n900 contract (10gig a month....sweet!), have used it quite a bit for internet connections with my laptop when out. I must say i am quite satisfied with the speed as well & have even used it to download torrents too

I was on a school field trip heading to another city, my friend had his laptop and it supports USB power when the laptop is off. So to make sure my battery wouldn't drain, I turned on Joikuspot, connected my N900 to the laptop, and told everyone there was Wi-Fi internet. I texted some friends in the bus behind us and they were able to access it as well on their I-Touches. I normally wouldn't allow Apple products on my networks, but let this one slide. There was mainly 2g, but everyone knew it ws better than nothing.

If you have a router with a USB port it likely supports tethering. I've never had my internet go out but if it did it's a really good way of getting internet on all your computers.

I have a DIR-855 router which does this and if you have a slow ISP provider with a fair usage policy it might be worth cancelling then consolidating the two into a Mobile web package.

You could also go hit JoikuSpot on your N900 and grab their app, it's only a few Euro. It turns your N900 into a wifi router, using the cell service as it's up-link and allowing you to connect several PCs to it via wifi. There's a community project in the forums here as well that does the same thing, but frankly for me spending a few Euro to have it automated and packaged was worth it.

a long bustrip with bored teenagers? ur fair usage policy will be destroyed by 30 people simultaneously downloading porn from your connection! :P

My N900 also saved my but a few days ago. I was stuck without DSL at home, until I remembered that I had bought an N900 because of all the stuff it could do that my previous phone (made by a fruit-named company that I shall not say) could not do. So I installed a couple of apps and poof! I was browsing 3.5G within minutes. I didn't notice any difference between my regular broadband and the cellular speeds. I was even able to play World of Warcraft over the connection (although it disconnected a couple of times).

I really love many things about this phone. I hope they push out an update to the firmware to fix the current issues.
