Or, alternatively, YOU could try and help them, setting an example and improving the general perception of the community and net willingness to help. The role of a moderator is pretty much to do what it says on the tin; to moderate. If they happen also to be helpful in solving people's problems all well and good, but that is being done as a member of the community. Indeed, it would in many ways be better if those who weren't terribly good at answering people's question did the moderation to allow those who are more time to do so.

It often seems to me that people who go on and on about pretty much anything, including how unhelpful people are around here are, have rarely, if ever, actually tried to help with someone else's problems and their targets are often people who have contributed oodles of good stuff, be it advice, software or infrastructure. What is damaging to this (or any) community is those with a sense of entitlement making a lot of noise but not giving anything back.
