For some reason my N900 now does not charge from the AC mains charger. I have tried two different chargers.

Also it does not charge from my PowerMonkey Explorer.

However, it does charge from my PC via the USB cable and I'm able to use Mass Storage mode and PC Suite mode.

Does the above rule out a faulty USB connector?

I'm really confused as to why this would be the case?

That is really strange behaviour.

All I can suggest is

- Try a different power outlet
- Try plugging the USB cable charger into a wall USB charger (the ones you get with the ipod)

Perhaps you should take it to a Nokia care centre and have them run some diagnostics.

If any one else can think of another solution please share.

I have tried different plug sockets, two different charges, my PowerMonkey Explorer travel charger.

It only works with the USB cable connected to the PC.

I don't have a USB mains charger (ie one you connect the USB cable to).

This is very unusual and very annoying.

Make sure, that your chargers have the data pins shorted together. Otherwise, n900 will not charge.

You wouldn't expect a travel charger to work without a modified cable, see this topic for more info.

I don't know whether this would also have implications for non-Nokia (/ non-standard?) wall chargers, but if you are using the original charger then the most likely explanation would be that it's faulty I would think. Can you get your hands on another Nokia charger to test?

Cheers,
Jan

I have this problem too.

Ive finded that if you plug it in to AC, and then you reboot the device, it start charging ok

if you interrupt the charge, you should start all over again

I had the same thing except it would charge from time to time, but always slower than USB. When insterting the plug it would give short flashes on the notification indicator.

This was with a Nokia micro-usb charger.

I have since given up and carry a small micro-usb cable with me and attach it to the PC I'm sitting at to top it up. As a bonus, it really charges faster via USB.

EDIT: indeed, after a reboot it would always charge ok, but later on it fell back into its odd behaviour

I will try the reboot later, it's clearly a bug then.

I have tried two original Nokia N900 chargers. Both do not work.

Also, yesterday it worked, so did the PowerMonkey Explorer

I have tried rebooting and then plugging in the charger, tonight I will try connecting the charger and then rebooting to see if it comes alive.

I can't see how it should charge faster via USB, the mains charger was definitely faster for me when it worked.

This is a side effect of the whole USB issue, the same thing happened to me.

Unfortunately it's most likely going to get worse and worse until it no longer works at all...send it off and hope that Nokia repair it.
