Hi,

I've spent the last week trialing Sygic Mobile Maps on my N900 (trial version from Ovi Store). Overall a very good package and miles better than what Ovi Maps has ever been on Symbian (and there's no point even comparing it with the Maemo version of Ovi Maps).

There's one major bug that's a deal-breaker for me though. Since I haven't been able to find anybody else complaining about it, I'm hoping that I'm just doing something stupid and that it can be fixed.

I've enabled "AutoLock after 5 minutes" in the System settings (I guess that most N900 users are doing the same given the sheer amount of private data we hold on these things). So that works fine: after 5 minutes of inactivity, the phone locks and asks for my unlock code.

Problem is: when Mobile Maps is running and routing me, the phone still locks itself every 5 minutes. So every 5 minutes, I have to enter my unlock code to be able to see the map (not the safest thing to do while driving).

That obviously shouldn't happen. When Mobile Maps is running in the foreground and routing, it's fairly obvious that I don't want the phone to lock itself. Disabling AutoLock altogether is of course not an option.

Is there some hidden setting somewhere I've missed or is this a bug in Mobile Maps?

There should be a backlight option in advanced settings to set it to Always On. Smart Backlight should also set it to stay on when routing although I haven't tested it personally.

IIRC, I had this option set to Always On. It did keep the backlight on but didn't prevent the phone from locking itself every 5 minutes.

I can't verify now unfortunately because my trial expired and I'm not mad keen on spending 60 euro on this if this bug can't be solved.

Ah, I see the phone treats autolocking and backlight timing as different things.. which is somewhat odd. Contact Sygic about the bug; they seem receptive to fixes and push them out pretty quick.

I'll drop them an email and see what they say. Cheers.

I noticed this. IIRC, if you just force the screen to stay on with the status panel applet instead of letting Sygic Maps do it, it doesn't lock.

Are you experiencing this with the latest version?

Here's the repository setting in case you didn't know:

Web Address: http://repository.sygic.com/maemo/

I'm using a version downloaded a week ago from the Ovi Store. I assume it's the latest one.

I didn't have this repo in the app manager so I added it now but no update available for Mobile Maps.

So I emailed Sygic Support and they answered. They say that they can't reproduce the issue but that they'll take a look at it. I take it that it's unlikely that they'll sort this out quickly.

Until they come up with a fix (if ever), I'll have to use the Simple Brightness Applet which is able to prevent the phone from autolocking. It's a pain to always have to remember to switch it on before starting Mobile Maps and switch it off after I arrived. Bummer.

I have same problem and have also been in contact with Sygic support. My first email on this issue to them was sent late March and was totally disregarded. After my second email I got response with some suggestions but problem was not solved. My latest email to Sygic was sent on April 28 with my final conclusions and for that mail I did not receive any response at all.

I doubt this will be fixed in Mobile Maps 9 but hope that they release Mobile Maps 10 soon. With some luck that might fix the problem.
