Let me put it to everyone like this. If this app was released in extras devel, I would Gladly brick my phone for this one!

Pillum, I know a user who has installed the 1.2RC. I'll ask if he can test.
I am sure others here have it installed too and would be happy to test it.

already implemented some basic UI......looks nice...though its my first qt app
unfortunately, I can't test it on my phone with pr1.1
Why don't you test it on the N900 emulator provided with the latest version of the Qt Creator 2.0 Beta?

Also from what I could see, the developpers of this application are OpenBossa, I believe they are the developpers of Canola.

so, did they say anything about their video editor?

I dont want to "waste" my time if there are already some devs working on some similiar project :/

I am interested in such a project to. A feature I'd like to see is single frame movement forward or backward using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

just some questions which makes my life easier:
what videos do you want to edit with the editor?
short films? what duration? 1-2 min? longer than 10 min?
do you want transitions between two pictures/videos?
how many tracks do you want? (e.g. more than one audio track, so you can play 2 songs simultaneously?)
what tracks do you want? audio? video? text overlay?
how long are you willing to wait for the final video?

how long can you wait for what? ( e.g. 1 day for an alpha ?,2 days for a final version?)

    some infos about the project:
    name is MaediaMix
video rendering will be done by mlt framework or may be some other thing....depends on the features, you want
current status: basic ui + one audio track for music and one track for videos (only pictures supported yet)
what takes the longest time? reading qt documentation and source codes of qt apps cause its my first qt app
and creating graphics like background and icons, etc.
creating video editing functions is the easiest task yet

i want to apologize in advance for not spending my entire freetime because I got a lot things to do IRL i need to go to school...i have to work..I develop this app for free and dont want to charge people for using my app because I believe in open source ...and my girlfriend needs time too and besides I'm just a teenager who wants to ave fun
so it could take a week or two to finish this app

I hope that you have patience else I have to stop and some other people have to do this

Definitely want to give you a big thanks if you plan to put this project under your wing. I also want to get right to your questions but i will try to keep it short, sweet and simple.

1st off Have you seen Imovie HD on a mac(usually older models have this since Imovie 09 is out now)? it looks very similar to what that demo looked like in the sense of editing wise. It was simple, quick, easy to do and looked cool/fun.

I would strongly suggest being able to keep the app highly optimized so that a person editing a video on the phone would not drain the battery so much if at all possible of course.

I want to say it is safe to assume that a person editing video on the phone will end up with a 5 to 15 minute clip on average based on some of the things i have seen on youtube and what people like to do when they go to concerts, shows and events.

With that said i also want to touch on the fact that whoever is editing a video would not be editing just one clip but several clips with either no transitions or at least a simple fade in/fade out transition between clips.

I know people love to name or add text to there video so whoever is watching it knows what it is about like a simple title on the video or during and intro or credits. So text is definitely a must and being able to add pictures (jpeg, etc) would also be nice to capture what you couldnt get on the regular n900 video recorder but where able to get on a still frame.

Music at this point is a must however being able to have two songs/AUDIO tracks (AAC, MP3, ogg, etc) would be amazing for music to develope a theme for the video and for voiceover that someone might want to do using recaller and pluging it in the video editor. (IMAGINE THAT! it would be awesome!).

All in all if you look at iMovie HD it looks or seems to feel similar to what the demo looked like. Ofcourse i want to mention that cutting/pasting/trimming is a must to all video editors and to help keep memory open i would keep a trash folder available in the app while you edit that way you can either back track the clips you deleted or just clear the memory so you have more space on the phone and will make it easier to keep battery life up.

I hope i was able to touch base on everything that could be possible for this video editor. N900 would have THEE editor to have on any phone.

Like i said if you have to keep it time restricted because of file size or space i would say give the user the limit of up to 15 minutes of space to edit their video. Everyone must remember that this cannot replace and actual desktop editor but 15 minutes to lets say.... 30 minutes MAX (if at all possible, who knows..) with the ability to trim and cut and add more video should be more than enough for the basic needs

Thank you for your time again

Maybe something like PiTiVi that is based on Gstreamer; or maybe start on something more simple like DikDik that uses Qt4?

Or maybe there is already an application that I haven't seen.

    Thank you!
