Ok so I took the plunge and put in the order today. My N900 will be here on Tuesday for the princely sum of 300 euros.

So heres hoping the phone will not be only useable on vodafone Ireland and that my other company sim card will work for the phone functions of the N900.

Really excited now and I will post my real world findings regarding locking to carriers. Again thanks for the help guys.

vodafone uk are going down the same route no longer stocking it in any of their stores, imo going even more niche can only be a bad thing in respect of wanting software houses developing.

hey guys so i picked up my n900 today and i can confirm (in my case anyway) that this phone did not need to be unlocked.

The guy in the shop was certain that it would have needed to be unlocked but luckily for me it didnt. YAY!

posted this from the actual phone too by the way

Got mine from Carphone Warehouse on the Vodafone network on a 24month contract. Paid around £40 upfront for the handset on a £35 a month contract.

My understanding is CPW supply non branded handsets whilst if i was to renew my contract direct with Vodafone I would'e potentially had a partially branded N900. Yes i suppose i could've flashed it to standard UK firmware but renewing with CPW was no bother whatsoever and also no need to reflash a 'brand new device'.
