Hi there.

I happen to use a sim card (pay as you go) from 3 UK on my N900 and I have noticed that every time I make skype calls my internet allowance MBs are used, although in http://www.three.co.uk/Pay_As_You_Go...ee_stuff/Skype says that skype-2-skype calls should be free.

Anyone else having the same issue?

You should probably call the operator and talk to him.

I think it uses data connection - just the other phones apps probably use some sort of proxy or something that this data is counted other way than regular internet data

no i read on here other day that they use a modded version of iskoot or something that calls a specail number which connects to skype user thats how it avoids data use

pretty sure skype on 3 is routed over the voice network. Interesting point whether "free" means "free within your data allowance" or free as in lunch. Last marketing I saw from Three for PAYG said free skype with no need to top up your account, so I'd tend to agree that there should be no data usage billed.

OP - is the datata usage you mention being seen on your Three account online, or by the dataplan monitor wdget (or similar) on the phone?

Can't see why not - but "suck it & see" is surely the easiest answer in these crrcumstances?

anyway, I popped in a 3 PAYG SIM from an old mobile broadband dongle which I had kicking around and I could browse to myThree and confirm that I had 0 credit remaining - so I'd imagine you're good to go as long as you're on current (1.1.1) firmware and/or it's a modern SIM. Just try it and if it DOESN'T work, you can look for some advice?
