I just paired (tethered) my iTab with my LG VX8600...

Can everyone confirm that there is no charge to do this with Verizon data usage?

if you have vcast no, if you have mobile web it will only use minutes ontop of your existing 5 dollar mobile web charge if you have none of the above i think they'll charge so many cents per kb which can get real expensive, you should really check out howardforums.com ffor more answers. i believe there is also a less expensive slower account verizon offers i wanna say the login/pass is qnc/qnc or somthing

On my phone, I don't have any data plan (which you are supposed to buy if you are tethering). I force my phone to CDMA mode only (no 3G) when I tether it. I beleive it charges normal minutes. However, free nights and weekends should still apply. You can also pay around $20/mo for the unlimited 3G data plan. I would recommend that if you are going to use it frequently, and want reliability and speed. (using CDMA only is a little flakey for me. I tend to turn off images, and avoid sites with a lot of embeded frames. for example Yahoo! mail beta never finishes loading, but the classic interface works fine.)

I just got a verizon phone yesterday (enV) Tethering was a big concern for me. I had to get the Unlimited Data plan ($59.99) and that included tethering.

You don't have to get that plan. I think there is at least a pda or phone plan like cingular that is cheaper

But to the first post, on cingulars plan you can double check and go online and see if you are being charged, I am sure other carriers like that too. I got the $24 unlimited plan with cingular.

I have read through all of the terms of services stuff for verizon (as well as cingular), and picked up the $45 unlimited data plus $15 tethering. (Yes, I had read HoFo and knew out about the 'free' data.) If you read through the terms you will see many restrictions on what you are allowed to do, and for me, the full data plan was the only way to go. I use it with both the n800, and my laptop, sometimes download updates for Suse, ~500MB at a time, and have had no issues with my service.

I suggest that people read through the terms of service for their providers so that they are aware of what they are and are not allowed to do, if for no other reason than to not be surprised when the service gets shut off. The full data plan with verizon offers a lot more flexibility that cingular's offering, and was the sole reason for me switching from cingular to verizon back in december. With verizon, doing things like ssh'ing to my server to do some work is not against the ToS, as it is with Cingular. Also, verizon lets you stream/download music as long as it is legal and within reason (there is a 5GB/mo cap with Verizon, Cingular, Sprint).

I'll admit it's more expensive, but I know that unless I do something really stupid, I'm not going to lose my service.
